Batch Control
The candy plant hasn't stopped running in three weeks, and across fourteen machines something is always right on the edge of going wrong: a bearing running a little hot, a die overdue for a reset, a sensor feed that doesn't quite match what showed up in the batch log. Catching the one that actually matters before it turns into a shutdown is the hard part. Your job is to build a Sigma app that watches the floor and gives someone a way to catch it in time.

Hackathon HQ
The September 2026 challenge, the second qualifying round for Workflow 2027, used five years of hackathon archive data covering teams, projects, and voting. Builders built a Sigma app with an AI agent that audited the record to help organizers plan the next hackathon. Judges scored on innovation, execution, impact, and presentation, and the top scorer advanced to the Finals.

Perfect Match
The August 2026 challenge kicked off the road to Workflow 2027, with builders creating Sigma apps from pet adoption data covering shelter activity, pet bios, and adoption outcomes.

2026 Builder Challenge
The 2026 challenge, held at Sigma's first Workflow conference, was based on HR data. Four contestants each built an HR AI app that judges scored, then combined their scores from 16 live challenges on stage to crown the Golden Goat winner.

2025 Builder Challenge
The 2025 challenge was Sigma's first app-building competition, based on Denver housing data. Three contestants had two hours to build a rent-versus-buy calculator from the same dataset, with each app required to use warehouse writeback and a scoring model to recommend renting or buying.
