This Competition is your chance to show off what you've got. The winner of this competition will qualify for the Builder Challenge at the 2027 Sigma Workflow Conference ("Workflow 2027"), where they will compete live on stage for the ultimate prize: the title of "Golden Goat". This month's theme: running the candy factory floor.
The candy plant hasn't stopped running in three weeks, and across fourteen machines something is always right on the edge of going wrong: a bearing running a little hot, a die overdue for a reset, a sensor feed that doesn't quite match what showed up in the batch log. Catching the one that actually matters before it turns into a shutdown is the hard part. Your job is to build a Sigma app that watches the floor and gives someone a way to catch it in time.
The data you need to build your Sigma app comes in connected tables (Batch Control | Oct 206 Competition Data). That data comes in three connected tables, all realistic but completely fictional. Use just one, or all three:
Equipment: every machine on the floor, its line, and the normal range it should run inside for temperature, rotational speed, torque, and vibration, plus the tool-wear point at which it needs service.
Telemetry readings: a sensor reading for every machine, every 15 minutes, for three weeks straight.
Batches: one production and quality record per machine per shift, including defect rate, QC score, and inventory buffer.
Remember, we're looking for more than an analysis. Build something functional that captures a real workflow, such as helping an organization move faster or streamline an existing process.
Your submitted Sigma app must meet these minimum requirements:
Create a Sigma app that meets the aforementioned Submission Minimums;
Submit your Sigma app for the Competition during the Submission Timeframe; Submissions can be made when you are publishing your app through the submission pop-up, or by returning to this page and clicking Submit your app; and
Stay compliant with and adhere to all requirements of the Competition Terms.
In accordance with the Competition Terms, the highest scoring submissions will receive the prizes described below:
Winner: The first place winner will qualify for the Builder Challenge at Workflow 2027 and receive an attendee pass for the Workflow 2027. As required to facilitate their participation in the Builder Challenge and up to a maximum of USD 1,500, Sigma will also sponsor the first place winner’s hotel accommodation for one night, and their flights to and from the event (within the contiguous United States of America).
Second Place: The second-place winner will receive Sigma branded airpods (with a total approximate retail value of USD 300)
Third Place: The third-place winner will receive an Amex gift-card worth USD 100.
All submissions for the Builder Challenge Competition will be evaluated by judges against the following criteria.
Innovation (30 points): Does the agent and application do something creative or unexpected? Is there an idea here that makes a judge look twice?
Technical execution (30 points): Does it work end to end without breaking, and would it hold up if run again? Is the submission efficient and does it function as expected? How well does the submission use available Sigma features?
Business impact (25 points): Does this solve a real problem for potential users? What does it speed up or make easier?
Presentation and design (15 points): Could a first-time user figure this out on their own without a walkthrough? Is it clean and easy to follow rather than cluttered?
